Letter from the President of the Fraternity Arkonia and the President of the Philisters’ Association
Dear Friends,
this year’s event is an event of great importance. For the first time in its history, the Baltic Nations Kommers is going to be held in Poland. Today, when the idea of students’ fraternities flourishes more in Estonia, Lativia and Germany, than in oland, it is the Polish fraternity Arkonia that has an undeniable honor of hosting you. As descendants of the fraternities’ movement originating from Riga and Tartu, we all have the same roots. There is a difference between our traditions and habits, our fates were also different. Nonetheless, we remain faithful to the ideals of our founders, and the great majority of habits over one hundred years old has been kept unchanged. This shows how important fraternities are in the academic life, in the lives of their members. The fact that so many of you are visiting Warsaw confirms this thesis and is a source of great pride to us.
Preparation of the 48th Baltic Nations Kommers was a great challenge for us. You will see it for yourself, to what degree we have coped with this challenge. Yet even now we can say that by means of common effort - because many of you have supported us - we may achieve so much.
Conscious of the responsibility placed upon Arkonia, we are hoping that the 48th Baltic Nations Kommers is going to be a truly exceptional event what we wish from all our hearts to you and to ourselves.
